Time for Reflection!

Okay guys - with next week being the end of the first six weeks of the school year, it's time for us to sit back and reflect a little bit about what we've accomplished so far and how we're feeling about our reading. It's always good to take some time and honestly think about what we've done (or haven't done sometimes - no one's perfect) and then from that - set some goals. Moving forward is what it's all about.
Personally, I feel very good about quite a few things so far. I've finished four VERY good books (well, I'm almost finished with Recovering Charles - my fourth book and, boy, do I have a lot to tell you about this one !) Some of you have gone way past me in the number of books you've read this six weeks! Way to go! You have no idea how that pleases me as your teacher. I wish that all my students would love reading as much as I do. I'll never stop trying to make that happen.
Just about everything I've read this six weeks has been for pleasure - and nothing wrong with that! It's just that I like to keep up professionally too, and I've done VERY little - almost none - professional reading. (That would be reading in my field of reading education.) So, I'll need to work on that in the upcoming six weeks.
I also feel very good about getting to know each one of you - it feels like we've been together for longer than six weeks! I enjoy meeting with you every day and getting to know you better through your writing and, of course, all of our discussions.
Lastly, I'm very pleased with our classroom blog and how it's going so far. We certainly have had some excitement with it, haven't we!?
So... now it's your turn. Take a few minutes to tell me how it's going for you.

I am thrilled that so many of you - Sydney, Ryan, Veronica - are reading more that you ever have! That's exciting. And you're right Sydney. When volleyball is over, you'll have more time for reading. And Bryanna, I'm so glad you enjoy coming to this class! I enjoy having you here just as much.
Veronica, don't feel jealous, you're going to meet and author in February, so just sit tight!

I think that it's going great. I like the way that you explain things. At my old school they did not explain things very good. so i think you are doing a good job.

I absolutly love reading it gives me something to do. The books I really enjoy are most likely mysery, and autobiography, They just get you out of your seat. I only read books that will actully get me interessed in reading it i usally take a book and read the back and find a page and read a few pages to see if I will read it. Books have really changed it how i use words in life i use more interesting and big words with liitle meaning. When im writting about something i usally give it more detail then what im sapposed to. Some books are just so amazing i will just read them again just for the fun of it because the book is really good. I can not wait untill next year so I can see the many opertunites for me to read.

Well, Madison, the length of the book is not as important as the comprehension strategies that you use to help you understand what you're reading. And you are doing VERY well with that.
And Bliss, I'm very impressed with what you've done so far. Both of you ladies have worked very hard this six weeks!

If you keep reading then it wont be difficult like i said. I think the blog is going great! When i first came to this class i thought we were going to read the whole time but no we read a lot and write too!!! Keep reading its good for education.

I have accomplished a lot of goals this sixth weeks and missed some.I have read a lot of Captain Underpants and they were good. i am now reading kidnapped and its a good book too but it's sad too.One of my goals failed and it was to read six books and i have read five so i was almost there so I'm going to try hard next time.So i have accomplished a lot of my goals.

I'm very proud of you too Austin for reading THREE books! Way to go!

As you know Megan, Nancy Drew books were my favorites when I was your age. They were the reason I wanted to be a detective when I grew up! Keep up the great work!

Okay, Tabitha, but I'm still not convinced! I'm going to hold you to this!

You're right Araceli! If you keep reading, it will keep getting easier. You have to make sure you keep selecting books that you enjoy!

I'm glad that the extra time in class when we can manage it, is helping you out Stephanie. I'mm very pleased with everything you've done. Keep it up!

Mrs. Halterman said...

Cristeena, I'm glad that you feel things are going great and you're enjoying class, but I'm puzzled as to why you haven't finished a book yet.

well the quesiton u asked this time was cool and i like this kind but i do not like the ones that are like what does the carritur look like in your book, i like ones more like how is it going with your book , did anything exiting happen in your book that u never thought would happen.

Mrs. Halterman said...

Gotcha! I'll see if I can do more of these types of questions, Hannah! When we move into studying plot structure, I think you'll have more opportunities to talk about the exciting events in your book!

Well I love being in your class I have found I like to read mistory. And if I was not in your class I probably would not of found that out. So I gese that ever thing is going great.

It's goig great and I really like it because we get a chance to write about our book that we're reading or write about reading and writing.

because it's hard for me to read big chapter books because i read really slow becuse that's why i have no ar tests and litle chapter books i would have had about 2 to 4 ar tests this 6 weeks and if it helps i will start reading little chapter books from now on and that might help me out with my score a little better.

Anonymous said...

Im not really happy. I was not doing good this 6 weeks. I will try harder the next 6 weeks. I will have all my home work in in time. Do all my home work. Do my home work when i can i hope i can follow this goal.
