Continuing with our study of characters...last week we looked at how authors reveal what characters are like through their actions. There were lots of interesting comments made on our blog and I enjoyed reading all of them! I hope you enjoyed reading each others' too!
Did you know we can also learn about a character by what he or she says or thinks? This will often show the reader what type of person he or she is. Think about it. Have you ever listened to someone talk and then made a judgment about what kind of a person he or she is based on what was said?
This week I want you to look through your book and find some dialogue between two characters or a part of the story where a character is thinking. Read it carefully and decide what the words spoken or thought by the character reveal about him or her. Then tell me:
1. the title of your book
2. the character's name and what he or she said or thought
(Be careful to use quotation marks correctly!)
3. Tell what this revealed about the character to you.
For example, based on what I read this week I would write:
In Water for the Elephants Jacob is thinking, "I knew how important it was to keep her secret, and keep it I did - for the rest of her life, and then beyond. In seventy years, I've never told a blessed soul." From these thoughts I know that Jacob is an extremely trustworthy and one-of-a-kind soul! Most people can't keep a secret to themselves for over five minutes!

A Series of Untortunate Events The Grim Grotto #11 My character is Violet, Violet fidgeted and thought of Quigley hoping he had managed to escape from the cold water and get to safety. I thought that Violet is sad and feeles hopples and conserned, because Quigley was a very good friend.
BIG RED Ross, i take the hounds on a varmint hunt. OL mike could teach him some tricks. Danny choked on the food in his mouth. I just dont notion that. That ross is kind cause he does not get mad.
The title of my book is shipwreck. My charaters name is Lyssa she said "Oh no in a deep voice"lyssa said deeply.She is always nerves about a lot of stuff she hears.
My book is called "LA LINEA" my characters name is called Miguel he thought "Twice before, papa had announced it was time for me to follow him north.Both times,I'd told Chuy and Lalo that i was going for sure.In the end,there wasn't enogh money.Both times I had to admit failure to make good on his promises.I know that Miguel is a determined person and goes for what he wants.

In Sarah, plain and tall Anna is thinking, ''Ask her if she sings, '' i said. She gots to be like her other mother that died and the reason for that is she only asked her if she sings. Also because their mother died and dad doesn't sing anymore and they miss it a lot.
In the book Shades Of Grade Will said,"I guess you dont't love virgiana enough to fight for it" from this words i know Will is upset and mad at his uncule.
The title of my book is Passport to Danger.My characters name is Joe Hardy. "I'll go check out the band."
What Joe said reveled that he is eager.
In the book Patrick Ewing,couch Bobby knight said"That the team and I loved having him on the team.It revealed that Patrick was a very good athlet, was athletic and put in a lot of effort in sports he liked to play in.
In A Dogs Life Tom is saying, "Stick them in th back,
Marcy," he said. "So they wont pee on us,"he said.and it revealed that he is bossy and he dosent like dogs.
I hope that was good or even great. Ithink that this was a great idea and i like it a lot. You are my favorite teacher in this grade so far and i don't think that is going to change. thank tou for being a great teacher.

In my book The lost Boy,David is mad at his foster brother Larry for calling him crazy. David is mad at thi point because of all of the years with his abusive mother he grown tired of being called names.David screams at Larry,"I'm not crazy!And don't you ever,ever call me that again!"
In the book MACBETH the Genral said "WHO COMES HERE" he sounds scarred because of the way he said it...It was night time and he could not see who it was so i think he is scarred.
In my book Kidnapped Meg gets sent to the office and she tells him madly"I didn't mean to,I'M SORRY, those other boys said that i couldn't hit that baseball.I know that she is mad cause the boys outside said that she couldn't hit the ball.

Captain Underpants
In captain underpants Captain underpants said "I WANT TO SAVE THE WORLD".Now i know captain underpants is goodhearted.
My book is called "Clementine" one of the characters names is Margaret.She thinks she is the boss of clementine becaues she said"you can't touch my stuff."And so from that I feel that when she said"you can't that sounded like she was being bossy.

In Angels In Pink by:Lurlene McDaniel Carson comes up to Kathleen and asks if she" would like to sit with him at pizza night". He's nice and polite and he likes Kathleen by the way he talks to her that's how I knew he was nice.
I'n my book windmill wind up there's a girl named Sara. she loves to play basketball and solfball. But when one of her team mates get ready to pick up the bat a girl says "DON'T TOUCH THAT BAT" Sara just youst it and SHE HAS CUTTIES. Then Sara gets mad and goes home. I thank that the girl is a clean freak, a buiety queen, and gets what she wont's alot,and hateful. The words that sound really controlly words are "DON'T TOUGH THAT BAT" and "SHE HAS CUTTIES' and " SHE'S DUMB". And the thangs she does to Sara is that she won't to be popper and she probly has more freinds like her on her team.
In heat Micael said,"Iwas running from them and she is not my sweetie DORK BALL. I knew he got mad at Manny alot.
La Linea Miguel is thinking to live his house to go to USA and find his parents."I can't wait no more. He said id in a sad voice. I'm leaving and going to look for papa and mama!" I would go look for my parents if they were gone. What a sweet kid he is!
"How many have you knocked over yet, Bob?" said Shane in the book Shane. Hes a good shot and likes to move around.I know that he is mad because lots of people wants him to leave and never come back because hes a good shot. He is wondering why they want him to leave so bad.
The character Christina said she is a nice girl and i don't think hat you should say stuff about her. I don't think you should say stuff about her. I think that christina thinks this person is a kind person because she Christina said only nice thing about her
int he book( i got an f in lunch)theres thi girl named addie willson and when shes around jenny she acks really defrent because shes around her friends . so i think addie is being mean to jenny because when she was at lunchaddie said "im sorry that i didnt save you a seat"..so maybe they will become friends agian.....
I my book Judy Moody Gets Famous, Judy got mad at Jessica Finch because she gets in the newspaper because she one a spelling bee.Judy tells her mom that she got in the news paper and her mom said don't worry about it.She went around and asked people if they have ever been in the newspaper.She decided to enter a contest to get her picture in the news and it cut her out.I think that Judy is Jealous.
My book is Captain Underpants an the preposterous plight of the purple potty people. The charicter is Captain Underpants. Confadent because He says that he will not give up and He dosent give up.
The ghost's grave."Why do i have to live with a stranger. I now that Josh was vary anger at his mother.
